A Terraced Garden

The front garden has a natural stone theme which is brought up from the bottom paved area using stone walling to define the split levels which deal with the steep gradient. Each planted terrace has a contrasting planting scheme of form and colour to help break up the garden. Lighting is placed around the wall edging of the top terrace and also within the planting down the sides of the steps leading to the river to enhance the channelled view.

Section showing the terrace walling down the side steps, which will create a defined enclosing walkway which opens out at the bottom to the stone seat which has the backdrop of the raised bed and planting.

Sketch looking from the house window, showing the framed view through the iron structure to the back wall and water feature.

The wall mounted water feature is of an attractive and simple style. The iron lion's head framed by a brick arch is the focus. The water trickles from a basin onto a slate slab that creates reflection. From here the water flows down a narrow canal to the central pool. The iron lion's head reflects the existing iron structure in the garden.

The back garden is based around two focal points. The wall mounted water feature and the existing iron structure in the centre. These are connected by water flowing from the source to a pool under the iron structure, thus creating small-framed views from all angles and entrances of the garden. The backdrop of simple but ornamental bog planting creates an atmosphere of tranquillity heightened by the sound of running water and the soft under lighting. Existing paving to remain.

Section throught the back garden shows the raised water feature and wall planting which is trained up mounted trellis.
