Groundworks

An early stage of construction on a landscape build project: Many projects involve the moving of considerable volumes of earth in order to accommodate foundation work for planned features or simply to effect a gradual alteration of shape or a more defined change of levels.

Linking the house to the garden

These two photographs illustrate a practical solution to linking a 2nd storey entrance to the garden below. Far right: The stainless steel steps lead to an elevated hardwood decking terrace sympathetically stained to match the colouring of the house brickwork. Right: Leading off the decking are a flight of steps which descend a steep bank down to the lawn and patio area.

Working with the existing landscape

The are some instances where solutions almost present themselves. Right: Early morning spring time photograph shows part of the woodland walk and gazebo (design for a 3 acre woodland/wildflower garden). Far right: Early stages of excavation in the construction of this tumbling water course next to photograph taken from the same spot 5 years later. The owners wished to create a 'tranquil waterfall feeding into a large well stocked pool planted with a variety of lilies and marginals". The planting is maturing with the waterfall and pond already looking well established.

A lake forming a main garden feature

A large scale construction work involving the creation of a man-made lake and floating deck/jetty set amongst a lawned area bordering mixed woodland. In some respects similar to the lakeside garden project, this called for major excavation and turf replacement. A planting scheme to be implemented for all areas, including the border adjacent to the boundary fence, will form the final phase of the project.
